Match depth to risk
Routine work should not carry the cost of maximum deliberation. Consequential assignments can call for deeper challenge and verification without changing the underlying quality standard.
Pricing principles
Usus is still in development, so paid AI and collaboration pricing is not final. Every firm will use the same core Harness and verification process. Pricing will reflect seats, usage, and service costs, while workflow depth follows the assignment.
Legal AI economics
Routine work should not carry the cost of maximum deliberation. Consequential assignments can call for deeper challenge and verification without changing the underlying quality standard.
Plans should state what is included, where outside model costs arise, and what happens before a firm reaches a limit.
A firm should be able to evaluate standard Legal AI pricing without a sales call or a large-seat commitment, with the core capabilities stated clearly.
Standalone edition
Free
Core local practice and business management, documents in the firm's folders, and locally run capabilities that do not create an ongoing Usus cloud cost.
Firm collaboration
Published before launch
Optional end-to-end encrypted synchronization, coordinated multi-device and multi-user access, and future connected services require operating infrastructure.
Commitments before the number
Assistants, clerks, bookkeepers, and other participants should not automatically carry the same price as a professional seat.
A firm should not have to purchase an unrelated premium AI tier to obtain a necessary workflow or data capability.
Cancellation should end a service, not disable the firm's local practice or make its records inaccessible.
A small firm should be able to understand the ordinary price without surrendering contact information or sitting through a demo.
Material changes should be explained before renewal, with enough time for the firm to evaluate its options.
Founders-program pricing protection will be defined before any participant is asked to purchase a paid service.
Why standalone can be free
A local desktop application does not require Usus to host every matter, document, search, and daily interaction. That makes a permanent free edition economically possible and lets the company earn revenue where it actually provides a continuing service.
“Free” is not a promise that development, support, or every external service costs nothing. It means the local product is intended to remain usable without converting into a subscription gate.
Price the exit
The real cost includes higher tiers, add-ons, staff seats, payment fees, implementation, future increases, and the labor and risk of leaving.
Shape the model
Firm size, staff mix, device count, storage, and practice area all change the economics. Founders-program conversations will inform the final model.
